What does a physical therapist do?
Physical therapists are highly skilled professionals with a doctorate degree who specialize in the musculoskeletal system. Our main goal is to assist individuals in enhancing their physical abilities and overall well-being. Whether it's recovering from an injury or surgery, improving athletic performance, or reducing discomfort, we collaborate closely with our patients to help them achieve their desired outcomes.
What is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?
The pelvic floor is a group of muscles located at the base of the pelvis that support pelvic organs such as the bladder, uterus, prostate, and rectum. These muscles are essential for sexual function and play a key role in maintaining bowel and bladder control. When there is pelvic floor dysfunction, these muscles have difficulty working together properly. Pelvic floor physical therapy is designed to address various pelvic conditions, including urinary and bowel problems, abdominal and lower back pain, sexual dysfunction, and postoperative care. Physical examinations may include external and internal assessments of the pelvic floor muscles to evaluate strength, flexibility, and coordination. While an internal assessment can provide valuable information, it is not mandatory.
How long will I need PT?
The frequency of your care will be based on the reason you are seeking treatment. We will determine this during your first evaluation and design a customized treatment plan that considers your individual needs.
What should I expect during my first visit?
At your first appointment, your licensed physical therapist will take the time to discuss your health history, understand why you are seeking care, and determine your goals. Following that, the DPT will conduct a thorough evaluation to assess your strength, flexibility, and pain levels. It is common for a brief treatment to be provided during the first visit with a home exercise plan developed specifically for you.
Is physical therapy painful?
From the Ground Up Physical Therapy & Wellness is committed to helping you manage your pain effectively. Our skilled physical therapist will work closely with you to mitigate discomfort and enhance your overall function. During every session, our licensed physical therapist will evaluate your pain levels to minimize any unnecessary discomfort.
How long does each visit take?
Initial appointments are typically 60 to 90 minutes; subsequent appointments are 60 minutes.
Do I need a physician referral before making a PT appointment?
Missouri allows patients to directly schedule an evaluation with a physical therapist without needing a referral. However, after ten visits or 30 days, the physical therapist must consult with an approved healthcare provider if the physical therapist believes that continued physical therapy is reasonable and necessary.
Do you take insurance?
From the Ground Up Physical Therapy & Wellness, LLC operates as an out-of-network provider to prioritize optimal patient care, free from constraints imposed by insurance companies. Patients can request a super bill for reimbursement from their insurance at the end of each session, as we do not submit claims on their behalf. Accepted payment methods include debit/credit cards, checks, cash, HSA, and FSA cards, with payment required at the time of treatment.
What should I wear to my appointments?
We recommend wearing loose and comfortable clothing that doesn't hinder your movement. It's best to choose athletic attire instead of jeans to ensure unrestricted mobility.
Are there any new patient forms I need to complete prior to my first appointment?
Yes, new patient forms will be emailed to you upon scheduling. We ask that you complete these forms prior to your appointment. If you have any questions, please give us a call at 816-323-0992.
